Staff Vacancies
Qualified Candidates are required for appointment into various academic positions within the University. Successful candidates shall be appointed on the basis of “ Contract for Services ”. This means that appointments shall not be on a full-time basis, and that remuneration shall be strictly based on the services rendered in accordance with the “Contract for Services” that shall be signed between the University and successful candidates.
The following vacant positions are available:
1. Professor
Candidates should have minimum of an earned doctorate degree, 15 years experience at senior professional level, computer literacy, not less than 15 publications, plus five years experience in teaching, mentoring or training others. Evidence of continuing education in candidate's occupation will be an added advantage.
2. Associate Professor
Candidates should have minimum of an earned doctorate degree, 15 years experience at senior professional level, computer literacy, not less than 12 publications, plus five years experience in teaching, mentoring or training others. Evidence of continuing education or self-development in the candidate's occupation will be an added advantage.
3. Assistant Professor
Candidates should have a minimum of an earned doctorate degree, 10 years experience at senior professional level, computer literacy, not less than 10 publications, plus five years experience in teaching, mentoring or training others. Evidence of continuing education and self-development in the candidate's occupation will be a clear advantage.
4. Adjunct Professor
Conditions are same as for Professor but the Adjunct Professor is appointed to provide learning support for a candidate enrolled on the university's programme only for the duration of the programme. The appointment automatically terminates when the candidate completes the programme.
Visiting Professor
This position is meant for candidates who are full-time Professors or Associate Professors with other universities, or senior professionals and experts in fields or disciplines in which the university may desire to encourage or promote learning. They are appointed for their repute and their potential to contribute to the work of the Commonwealth University .
6. Research Fellow
Candidates should have a minimum of a Masters degree plus five years experience. Publications and evidence of continuing education will be an advantage. Computer Literacy is mandatory.
7. Learning Support Fellow
Same as for Research Fellow
8. Adjunct Learning Support Fellow
Same as for Research Fellow
9. Teaching Assistant
Candidates should have a minimum of Second Class Upper degree; or Second Class Lower Degree plus a Postgraduate qualification. Evidence of publications will be an advantage.
10. Learning Media Manager
Minimum of a first degree plus cognate training in Computer Aided Training, E-Learning and Educational Technology.
11. Learning Consultant
Candidates should have a minimum of a first degree, knowledge of distance learning and marketing skills. Learning Consultants are hired to help potential learners to understand what open and distance learning is all about, and they play a crucial role in recruiting new students.
12. Academic Adviser
This is a functional title. Any Faculty member from Research Fellow upwards may be appointed to serve as Academic Adviser to a student. As a rule, only persons of superior degree/credentials can be appointed to serve as Academic Adviser to a candidate.
13. Academic Counsellor
Same as Academic Adviser except that the Counsellor is a part-time external support resource person.
14. Programme Manager/Director
Any Faculty member from Research Fellow may be appointed to co-ordinate a particular programme. Programme Managers/Directors work with Course Directors and other experts to deliver quality and to meet expectations of stakeholders such as students, sponsors, accrediting agencies, the faculty and professional associations.
15. Course Director
This is a functional position reserved for a distinguished expert or specialist who determines course contents, quality standards, certification of graduates, etc. Any senior faculty member not below Research Fellow may serve as Course Director.
